How to get started framing your landscape.
How to get started when you choose Alternative Edge as your landscape curbing contractor.
1
BEFORE
-
Start with looking over some of our styles and colors of curbing.
-
Overlook your yard to decide which curb style you want to frame your landscape beds with.
-
Fill out our estimate form or give us a call, and we'll walk you through the process.
2
After you have chosen your color and style, sign off on the work order, and we'll schedule a day for our crew to install your new landscape curbing. All sprinklers need to be marked with paint or flags the night before installation. We use a sod cutter to cut a path for the curb to be poured. If you already have edging such as plastic, metal, ect...it needs to be removed before the crew arrives, or our crew can run on the outside of the existing border and you can remove it at a later date. That will result in a slightly larger landscape bed.
3
DURING
-
When the crew arrives we'll overlook the job to mark the places that we'll be putting drainage for water shed.
-
Once the sod has been cut and removed, we'll begin the installation process.
-
We mix all of our concrete onsite on our custom trailer. All concrete is then moved with our gas powered wide 3 wheeled wheel barrow.(To minimize the disturbance to your lawn)
-
The mix will then be put into our cub machine where the magic starts to happen a shovel at a time!
-
Once the curb has started to be laid, our crew will start coloring and texturing the pattern that you have chosen.
-
We'll place control joints approximately 2 feet for the relief of stress in the concrete as it cures. Essentially we're putting "cracks" in ahead of time so the curb will expand in the control joints once its done being installed.
-
The crew will then start picking up most of the concrete that comes out of the sides of the machine, that we call "slag".
-
Then your curb will be sealed with a glass acrylic sealer. The sealing process will bring out the colors and help protect your curb from the elements.
4
AFTER
-
Once we leave the job DO NOT do anything around your curbing for 48 hours after installation. This means leaving your sprinklers off, and keeping your children and animals away.
Your curb may look and feel hard to the touch, but can still be damaged.
